Steve Tello. It pains me to type that name, as it was he who ruined my Pittsburgh Penguins viewing experience.
He is gone now, moving on to potentially ruin any tradition Houston sports fans may have on their local Fox Sports affliate. As Pittsburgh fans, we can only hope the new management regime comes to their senses and offers Mike Lange his rightful position back; then, let's hope Mike wants to return. Honestly, I couldn't blame him if he didn't, considering how badly he was screwed over. If he doesn't want to return to television, get Doug McCloud back in the booth (a metalurgy save!), or Scott Ferrall (shake it up!), or anyone other than Paul Steigerwald – who is the worst broadcaster I have ever heard in my 22 years of watching sports.
Back to Tello; Steve claimed Fox Sports Pittsburgh needed a "fresh set of eyes" for the broadcasts. Well, he failed in finding that because the guy currently calling the games can't be watching the same games we are – some of the things he says clearly states otherwise.
How can Tello come into a city he knows nothing about and make a decision that removes not only a local icon, but a national hockey league icon? The man is in the National Hockey League Hall of Fame for goodness sake!!! This clearly displays how out of touch Fox Pgh is with their viewing audience. Can you imagine the local backlash if the late Myron Cope was removed from the broadcast booth at the prime of his career? There would have been small scale riots! But hockey isn't accepted like football is, so this firing got swept under the rug and forgotten about. Not to me, I am painfully reminded every single time I turn on Fox Pgh to hear the equivalent of a nagging wife calling Penguin games.
Please use the phone number listed above to directly voice your displeasure to FSN Pgh.
