Raise YOUR Voice!
Craig P. from Baltimore, Maryland
Growing up in the 80’s, I had the privilege of not knowing Penguins hockey without Mike Lange. I always knew where Arnold Slick was from. I know how Michael Michael gets around town. And if I ever saw Sam at the bar, I would certainly include his dog in my drink order. But unfortunately, the young fans of today will not grow up with this very important knowledge.
Mike Lange was every bit a part of Pens hockey growing up as any of the players. He had a style that was appealing to the young, and new fans, that were emerging in the mid 80’s. He had the knowledge and enthusiasm to keep these fans entertained and informed. Mike Lange taught me about the NHL, about hockey. The young fans of today should get the opportunity to grow up with his iconic play calling.
Paul Steigerwald does not have what it takes to bring any of this to the game call. I always felt like he was too much of a fan to call the games. I am fairly certain, and thought many times growing up, that Mike Lange taught Paul Steigerwald hockey, (on the job). Paul is more in awe of the players and Penguins, rather than an objective broadcaster. I have no personal ill feelings toward Mr. Steigerwald, but he is no Mike Lange. Mike Lange is, and always will be, the voice of the Penguins. Mike Lange deserves to be on television.
I want Mike Lange back on television!
