The following are posts from a nation-wide hockey forum (http://hfboards.com) that I was alerted to; they had a thread questioning the best and worst broadcast teams in the entire NHL and the overwhelming consensus was that the current Penguins TV broadcast team is the very worst in the league. These are other people's posts, not mine; I have not edited them and I have also included the couple that were supportive of steigerwald and errey.

1. Pittsburgh - By far the worst, its actually painful to watch a Pitts game on Center Ice when they show the FSN Pitts feed. They produce the show as if the people watching are seeing hockey for the first time. But the worst part about it is that they have completely eclipsed the Boston team for worst homers. These guys are so unprofessional that they never sound excited when the other team scores or does something good (this is ok for radio, but not TV). As if that isnt bad enough, they actually take it one step further and regardless how bad the Pens looked on play or goal, or how good the other team looked.... its never really the Pens fault. It was bad officiating, bizzare stroke of luck (one in a million type thing), other team cheated or displayed poor sportsmanship etc etc. By far the worst.

I have no problem with Steigy/Errey being homers, I have a problem with Steigy/Errey being incompetent [expletive].

Paul Steigerwald - The most boring, unenthusiastic announcer in the entire league. He can talk about an opposition's goal without even changing his tone. "Heatley over the line. Heatley crosses. He shoots. He scores. Dany Heatley gets the goal." He can't come close to holding Mike Lange's jock.

Worst:
1. Pittsburgh-play by play guy is the biggest drab I've ever heard and a HUGE homer. And Errey is a clown. It's not a professional broadcast.

Bob Errey is the most *entertaining* color guy in sports right now.

The Penguins announcers just suck. Pure homer.

Pittsburgh (nothing to be said here that hasn't already, just horrid)

I usually turn the radio on when listening to Pens games, I admit. Although Bourque can challenge Errey in [dumbness] sometimes. Steigerwald just isn't very exciting to listen too.

I don't understand how Penguin fans can stand listening to Bob Errey every game. He is the worst in the business.

Calling Steigerwald and Errey journalists is like calling me a writer because I post on this forum

Can't comment only another team but Pittsburgh is pretty bad got to agree with everything said about Steggy.

Can't believe this wasn't brought up though about 40% of time Steggy screws up the name of the player or just blatanly call them somebody else and thats for the Pens and their opponent that day. I swear how do you screw up the home teams players. It's gotten so bad he doesn't even correct himself.

Errey yeah he's horrible but he can be priceless sometimes when he goes off on a nonsense Maddan rant.

I would estimate that 25% of the time Ruutu has the puck, he calls him Sidney Crosby. He called Kolvachuk Recchi yesterday.

Penguins TV broadcast - can't even tolerate it.

I think Paul Steigerwald and Bob Errey are great announcers. Steiggy is a really enthusiasm person - when Pittsburgh scores a goal.

I love the Pens radio announcer. His catch phrases after goals are friggin classic. I've been wanting to come up with a bingo card of his catch phrases for games. Check out the Pens podcasts for a sample.

I live in Pittsburgh and none of my friends like Steigy OR Errey

i agree 100% on the pens fsn being the worst announcers. they simply don't know whats happening.

It sucks as a Penguins fan because we went from havin on of the best duos in the league a few years ago (Mike Lange- Eddie Olczyk [sp.]) to the terror that is Errey and Steigy.

couldnt agree more. We are all still waiting for Mike Lange to step back in the booth. With Mikey there Errey's stupidity isn't encouraged. He chooses to ignore it.

Best announce team: Pens radio with Mike Lange and the ol' 2-niner Phil Bourque

I still miss Edzo and Lange together. One of the best duos in history proabably.

Paul Steigerwald is not anywhere near the announcer Lange is. Steigerwald brings no excitement to the game. Keeping Lange on the radio and Steigy on Tv is like playing Jarko Ruutu on the Power play and giving Crosby 4th line duty.

Penguin broadcasts turned from one of the more entertaining ones to one of the more bland ones with the change

I'd like to see Lange and Steigy reunited with Steigy as the color guy. They were really good together.

we had 3 icons in the burgh, b. prince, m. cope, and m. lange.........lange is the only one left. it would be a shame to lose him.

The only reason [Mike Lange] strayed off the subjects was because we had awful hockey teams with nothing to announce. I mean there isn't much going on when Rico Fata is on your top line.

WOW I don't care if you a fan of Toronto or Pittsburg but Lange was the best play by play guy in the bizz. He was always a treat to watch just to hear his one liners!!!
